Derive....to drift

A couple of weekends ago I found myself standing in a massive muddy puddle in the woods reliving an experience that I had a couple of years back. I was shaking as if it was happening there and then. Tracks were left and right of me in the mud. I realised that I had not had space held for me like this in a long time. Although I was in the middle of nowhere, I was deep in nature & that had allowed me to open up and express what needed to be out there, rather than in me. It was big.

The beginning of this all started as I stepped out of a car into the entrance to the woods. I was invited to look, name what I could see around me & what I was drawn to. The colours, the textures, to make way, to set an intention for this drifting experience.

Derive- to drift is a style of coaching where you are outside, open to the elements. It allows the brain to wander around, giving you time to think creatively, open up. By choosing which way to go at every pathway, it felt as if I was allowing myself to be playful. More mud, more fun right?

Being close to nature shifts our consciousness, to being more aware, lifting open the lid of our minds. Walking is good exercise, lifting one foot in front of the other creates more space, helps our bones, muscles & connective tissue to enjoy their job.  We played poo sticks on a little bridge over some water. Playing is good for the heart. Snow started to fall, the sticks got stuck. Metaphors were everywhere. Talking was part of it, the key was being outside unlocking all the stuck stuff, shaking it around until it popped out.

After an hour or so we started to make our way back. The colours seemed more vibrant on exit. Hues of purples, silvers from birches, oranges from other trees more greens of course. We spotted frogspawn in a massive puddle, jelly with eyes. It was then that the ideas came flooding in on how to take my future forward. The holding had paid off. The net caught me.

Derive to drift……...will be part of wonderful workshops to be held in the future. Derive, art, yoga. Delicious.
