EMBODY YOUR GIFTS
Its been a while…..Here is a blog about art and making…
I’ve been thinking what I could do to embrace my artist instead of hiding under a bushel. Cowering from the light, like a lonely soldier who has lost their batallion. No idea what that means but it felt like a good metaphor.
I am embodying the idea that I am an artist whatever the case may be. What does that mean though?
I guess really that no matter what I do to pay the rent, it doesn’t mean that I am not an artist, it just means that I need to pay the rent. Before I kinda looked at it the other way round. Now if people ask me what I do I let them know that I am an artist and a yoga teacher.
During the two week sunshine block which was kind of summer, we were all isolating. Gosh that seems like an age ago now… well actually it was quite a while back. To maintain equilibrium I decided to go hence and forth to finishing off projects that had gone by the wayside and were literally just sitting there for ages.
I made nine calico stencilled bags, a hoodie for the youngest, intention bowls, got rid of at least six bags of stuff that I didn’t need anymore. I organised the body of work for the Warrior Workshop and also did lots of other stuff inside. Be the change you want to see in the world.. isn’t that Ghandi?
I needed to make use of my fabrics that I have inside the flat so I went about discovering what was there and I also got rid of a lot of stuff that I really didn’t feel that I would do anything with. The kids also went to town, and gutted their bedrooms. I love a good clear out and the flat automatically felt better. (Don’t worry it all went in the textile bank or to charity shops.)
For the run up until the end of the year (see what I did there I didn’t mention anything about Christmas.) I have been making my new wellbeing products for you all to have the chance to have for gifts for yourself or others. Embodying my artist, creatrix. All of the delicious products are handmade from recycled saris and fabric scraps so very sustainable- if you like that kind of thing.
My flat has been filled will the smell of lavender contained in the eye pillows (also have in Buckwheat and rice inside.) The eye masks match the bags so are great together. And I have used the girls hands to model the up-cycled, jumper gloves and cosy winter warmers. I also made a mess and got scrutinised for using all the rice. I have made them affordable to support your practice, wellbeing routines plus self love. I have done my utmost to use nearly every scrap- not an easy task and there will be more things to cast your eyes on over the coming months.
Take a look at the photos to the left and keep an eye on my insta: @Cassandra_whitfield and my FB page and I will do my utmost to add all to my website as soon as I can.
If you like the look of anything let me know and we get it to you. If you would like anything made slightly different or have an idea about something you would like me to create for you just drop me a line. Commissions are always welcome.
I have enjoyed getting into all this making lark again and I see it as a sharing of loving kindness. Embodying my artist. What would I do with this gift otherwise?
Big love Cass xxx
