New Year Intentions. How we doing with that?
So I said to myself… ‘‘lets write a blog.’’ You know you love writing. Right? (or is it write?) And then I found out that I had nothing to say…….
The question came to me. Where do you find those ideas that are rolling round your head in the middle of the night, when you have reached the middle of the day? Why are your thoughts perhaps less vivid in the light of the day compared to in the night?
Perhaps this happens because when we are in bed in the night we are not surrounded by distractions. We have the space to rest and think. Allowing our thoughts to take shape, form themselves into wonderful little trinkets, to share with others.
To cultivate colourful shapes, thoughts, and ideas that form in my brain, in the later hours, or perhaps in the morning after meditation, I keep a pen and paper by the side of my bed. I note down things that come to mind or spring into my head when having space to rest and think.
Easy enough wouldn’t you say? Not as easy as you might think…….
This little trick of pen and notebook is something that has taken years to take root, embed into my daily routine. I came across the note book and pen idea years ago- this was the seed- I cant remember where. Consequently, I thought about it for a couple more years- fertilisation. Eventually, I went out bought a special note book and a pen and kept it by my bed- the roots started to grow. I seperated the pen from the book using it for other things, thus leaving note book without pen- not much good in the middle of the night or early morning. Getting out of bed is the last thing I am going to do, being warm and cosy, enveloped under my sweet duvet- especially to find a pen- procrasination/ distraction. Finally, I have my pen plus notebook by my bed, all the time. I sometimes lose either- mostly the pen to be honest, however I think you get what Im trying to say.
Why all this talk of note book and pen? What has this got to do with new year intentions I hear you cry?
I think you would agree that it took me longer than I expected to keep a note book and pen next to me at night. If you have lost sight of the ideas you had of making changes at the beginning of the year dont give yourself a hard time about it. I mean like…… REALLY… dont give yourself hard time about it.
Ideas, shape, form themselves becoming colourful in their own time. Planting seeds no matter how small take time to root down, consequently growing upwards, flourishing consistently, sustainably leaving an imprint. At which time they become much more easily followed. Small things like a note book and pen lead to bigger things. It takes practice. Sustainable, consistent, regular practice.
Now I use my pen and note book as part of my daily routine. Some of the writing reaches others in many different forms. Poems to share with friends, ideas for yoga, pieces of art- check out the ‘‘Eight Limbs Of Yoga’’ beside this text, or additions to conversation.
Other pieces of writing are still perculating until such time the shapes are fully formed, rooted down, ready to see the light and grow…………..
