Day 7 & 8 of the Artist Practice My own Mini Sketch book

Handmade mini sketch book-

Wild dyed and superfly…….Well actually it has a kind of homey vibe to it…… but it rhymed.

Front and back with slow stitch

Mini sketch book with slow stitch: I am so pleased with my slow stitch note book made entirely from scratch. (Yes I’m gloating.) I chose the wild dye pieces carefully for the cover and made a little landscape scene on the outside. Slow stitch added to the fabric pieces in the above photo.

The paper came from a batch of scrap I saved from left over documents. I sifted all the pieces that had typing or marks on, saved them for something else, god knows what? Remembering the need to use everything, everything has a purpose eventually.

I looked at Youtube to learn how to stitch the book together and used the waxed cord that I had purchased from Etsy for my Chakra Necklaces.

All these things I am making are pleasing for me as they have no real purpose but have so much meaning, being made from found things or left over items. Its settling to know the saved, left over bits and bobs are being utilised for use again.

As you can see the stages here above…. pinning the dyed fabric. Clipping the paper together and making the holes. Adding the cardboard. Admittedly I should have done this all at the same time- but hey it was my first go. Then I stitched through the holes with the wax cord and volia. I had a little video, but I cant work out how to embed it. i will add in the future if I work it out.

I am hoping this Artist Practice, (never sure if its an ‘s’ or a ‘c’ in that word and I looked it up and I still dont get it.) is inspiring you to do something creative. Even if its making origami swans at your desk when using your laptop. Or doddle ….just a little. Even if you’re being creative at life, its all part of it. I would love to know…And if my mum is reading this. Get that glue gun!

Big Love as ever
